CODE OF CONDUCT
Capoeira for Everyone: Community, Safety & Respect
At Grupo Capoeira Brasil NYC, we believe that capoeira is for everyone. There is a place and space for everyone and every individual body, no matter what. Our community is built on positive energy, passionate teamwork, diversity, and acceptance.
Capoeira is more than movement. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive, nonjudgmental, and stress-free environment where every participant can feel free to be 100% themselves. Capoeira is not just a martial art—it is a space for expression, connection, and growth.
Code of Conduct
By participating in any GCBNYC class, event, or online space, you agree to uphold a safe, respectful, and fun environment for all.
We have zero tolerance for harassment or offensive behavior—verbal, physical, or digital. If you’re unsure whether something is appropriate, don’t do it.
We welcome people of all races, ethnicities, genders, gender identities and presentations, ages, sexual orientations, abilities, physical appearances, and religions. Every individual has the right to feel safe, supported, and respected as they learn and grow through capoeira. Life is hard enough. Don’t complicate it.
Shared Responsibility/Community Effort
Respect is everyone’s responsibility.
We expect everyone to take ownership of their words and actions.
Listen and respond when someone expresses discomfort.
Apologize sincerely and change behavior if necessary.
Creating a culture of mutual consent means respecting each other’s boundaries and looking out for one another. If you witness something that feels wrong and it’s safe to do so, speak up. You can also notify a teacher or another student to help address the situation.
A Safe Space
At GCBNYC, we believe capoeira should be welcoming, expressive, and fun! It’s okay to be playful, take risks, and joke around as long as it’s done safely and respectfully. Knowing the right time and place for humor or spontaneity is part of building a supportive community.
We reserve the right to take appropriate action to enforce this Code of Conduct.
All participants, including students, teachers, and, where applicable, volunteers and sponsors, are expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct at all times, including off-site events and in all related social media or online interactions.
Let’s work together to make capoeira a space of joy, inclusion, and respect for everyone.
